Feel at home @ EU-schools... |
ONS 2DE COMENIUS PROJECT
"FEEL AT HOME @ EU SCHOOLS"

Summary:
The
general aim we want to work on is to create a school environment in which children
as well as their parents, the school staff and other
participants, feel at home.
We want to enhance the well-being of all of these in our
different schools.
For
this we will mainly focus on 2 issues:
- involvement of pupils (and their parents)
- pedagogical development (with involvement of staff)
The
project will enhance our own experiences when we know and interact
with different partners from over Europe.
Some instruments, a good practise manual, and a “feel good
songbook” (or even CD, or film) will be the result of the exchange of
our ideas.
When we begin to feel at home at school it helps us as life long
learners to feel at home in Europe too!
During the project we want to give concrete form to our aims:
- at school in the whole as an organisation
- in the
classrooms of each school
At the end of the project our school and of course our classrooms must invite all involved people to feel home, to feel safe… so the motivation to become better learners and to learn respectfully and co-operatively will increase.

Objectives:
Concrete
objectives:
1. First of all we want to make a strong diagnosis of the present
situation in our schools regarding the social competencies
of our pupils.
This should be realised with the help of:
> diagnostic instruments to know the good and sad feeling spots and
moments at school
> sociogram as a diagnostic instrument
2.
Based on this diagnosis we will exchange, develop and use methods
to improve the social competency and well-being of children.
This should be realised with some concrete good practise examples from the
different partners, such as:
> adapted story telling and tales,
> the help of “peace angels” at school
> the “axenroos”
> the
“emotional” letterbox where children
have the opportunity to give a signal to their teacher
> “feel good” songs
3. If possible (which depends on local facilities) we will involve external expertise and associated partners to help us to concretise our objectives.
4. We want to use and if necessary adapt the possibilities of participation culture(s) to create a positive atmosphere at school as for example with pupils councils
5.
We want to enhance the “school atmosphere” so children will
develop their social competencies to show, to handle and to talk about their
emotions with the help of:
> the development of a child friendly portfolio (my talents book)
which will grow from the child’s start at school till the end of the school
curriculum
> the making of a wish list or creative art work of the dream
class and
dream school
6. We want our children and staff to enhance their perception on Europe and our surrounding world. For this in each school we will develop a “European street” with models/pictures of homes of each participating country, and with a map to situate these. This will enhance the awareness of the common, but also different cultural identities in Europe for our children.
7. We want to enhance the awareness that working in social engagement, for the local community as well as the wider environment, is good for the development of the own socio-emotional skills and the well-being of everybody.
8. We want to develop a manual (+ project website) about the general aims with good practice.
9. We want to develop several different products which show the richness of being an individual as well as a community.
10. We want to make it possible for the children to improve their skills in English language learning, or to wake their interest for foreign language learning with the help of intercultural “feel good songs” and the traditional mail interaction.
Subjects or problems which we intend to address
-
We want to work hard on the way and the methods which
several schools from different parts of Europe use to approach the well
being of all involved people in school life.
- We want to change ideas on the differences between the several cultures, but
also search for the richness to transfer what is possible from
other schools in each local situation.
Approach which we will take to achieve our objectives
-
“training” in methods of staff members
with the help of associated partners
- exchange these methods with the partners, to transfer them if
possible to the local situation
- involve children with activities on their level trying to
promote the creativity, and attending the individual characteristics that
allow the participation of all the pupils
- during the meetings we can show the activities we have had
with the children to each other, and even involve the children in the local
meetings, so that they also are aware of the different cultures with common
topics we want to approach.
- We want to include all of the staff members, the parents and the
local social organisations which are very close to school life with
some participation methods.
- We want to transfer the good practise methods from
pre-primary schools to primary schools.
Our tasks: (Lombardsijde)
>
suggest the meeting calendar (once we know all participants which got a grant)
+ implement + follow up
> delegate tasks linked to the project members together with Fred Völker
as a partner coordinator
> support the follow up of the development of the good practise manual and
the “feel good” songbook
> develop a possible project logo before the first project meeting
> organize at least one(and if necessary 2)
project meeting(s) in school
> regular feedback to Comenius schools (mail – telephone communication)
> organise and manage a school working team
Integration in the learning activities:
Children will be involved in pedagogical approaches and will actively take part in the process.
Our
children will have the opportunity to try out new methods together with their
teachers. In this experiment the focus for the whole person takes a central
place (the heart, the hands, the head, the health…). The well-being of every
child is a daily concern for all the possible moments during the curriculum
and the learning at school. Of course some moments / lessons will be more
suitable then others to work on the topic of the well-being. Our staff must be
aware of this, and check this before trying out some methods during their
lessons with the children.
With the project we want to offer our children strong
methods for social-emotional development. From experience we know that
children learn better when they feel well at school.
Our involved staff-members should be strong to handle the
best pedagogical methods. That is why we want to integrate
good-practice in the classrooms and at school.
Therefore it is necessary we settle:
- a strong workgroup in each of the participating schools.
- on a regular basis a feedback to all staff-members at school. (e.g.
meetings)
- enough interaction and quality full dialogue during project-meetings
- the possible integration of external experts, who will help us in the
development of quality full pedagogical
and management methods
It’s
also necessary to involve our children and parents in the way we want to
integrate the project into learning at school. Therefore we will use
existing and new participation methods in which children, parents, as
well as staff-members are involved.
We will for sure have a look to the pre-primary school where a lot of ‘good-practice’
is available for transfer!
Dissemination:
We
will inform the children and their parents for example, by
Comenius European street in the school, website space with Comenius news, by
parent-meeting, school feast, school paper, open day at school, etc..
We will inform other people through means such as press,
website, at open day at school, etc. .
We will involve associate partners to help us to disseminate the process and the results of the project.
We may plan (if possible) a meeting with other colleagues to spread our results and to encourage them in working on our chosen topics to encourage better practice.
We will use the e-twinning website as a platform to spread the results and as a meeting point for the project itself (for those countries in which e-twinning is available).
Working this way, a network of people and organisations working on our topic will be developed, and interaction will be possible. This should help us to spread our good practise ideas to others.
Our school board, and perhaps also our local authorities, will be given “feedback” on what is going on and the results of the project.
If possible we want to support our national agencies in their initiatives to promote intercultural lifelong learning.
